Probably both. Great model, Chirag.

Yeah, both. I still can't figure out what I kept doing wrong before, though. Anyway, yeah that is a great model, but eDarwin is about as cheap as generators. All of my models are hand made with pride (meaning I don't know how to use a generator).

YES! I have been working on this for about an hour, and I've finally done it! AI is beaten! And I also don't know how to use a generator...

Anyway, here it is!

Originally the AI amoeba finished at 668, and now it finishes at 665 (that weird glitch), but I still beat it. And mine didn't get affected by the glitch luckily.

amoeba AI,

lol,I dont think I can beat that!

Wow, KingSolomon, that is impressive, to say the least.

well let me see ... it took my computer a whole 10 mintues of number crunching to come out with this one... the AI never sleeps...

tho i admit you did surprise me. i didnt think a human constructor would come even close. interesting amoeba design KingSolomon. 8 masses with 12 muscles.

Veret i wouldnt call my methods cheap. Writing a good AI is an art. Its quite fun to see the algorithm in action. A whole bunch of amoebas jumping onto the screen, most not even getting past the first hill, but a few managing to break away from their inferior brethren and actually finish the race. you'll see for yourself if you try it. or see the attached race of a sample generation.

Website should be up shortly...

I'm sorry, i don't mean to say it's not a good idea or anything, i'm just saying that comparing AIs to hand made models isn't exactly fair. Corect me if i'm wrong, but from what i can tell, your algorithm just takes what a human built and changes a few things randomly, then tests it and takes the best ones. A human could do that too, it would just be a lot more tedious than most humans (except kingsolomon) are willing to endure. One thing that I would like to see is an algorithm that con actually build the models itself, instead of just modifying existing ones for optimum performance. For example, can you create a program that will design (from scratch) a model to climb stars or something?

So basically what I'm saying is that AIs lack the creativity to design models themselves. Incidentally, I didn't design this model either, but a HUMAN did, and i would like to see what an AI can do here.

Wow, you'd have to have a pretty powerful model if it could climb stars.

well actually my algorithm uses the general blueprint of an amoeba (an amoeba generator) and plugs in some intelligently chosen values to create the amoebas. For more info go here:
http://sodarace.net/forum/thread.jsp?forum=16&thread=1639

My colleague RiMano used a different technique called simulated annealing, to optimize an existing model (daintywalker) to create a faster daintywalker.

http://sodarace.net/forum/thread.jsp?forum=16&thread=1670

And the algorithm waan wrote actually does create models from scratch, funny looking as they are.

http://sodarace.net/forum/thread.jsp?forum=16&thread=1637

The major challenge for us is to now write an algorithm that can create a model from scratch to race across a terrain. i reckon once we have written it , those stairs wouldnt be too difficult to deal with , of course i cant prove it yet. We'll just have to see. The AI does have limitations of course. We could start a long discussion about what an AI just cant do. For example it is highly unlikely an AI will ever evolve a zip-spring from scratch just like nature never came up with the wheel, Even tho they're both very simple parts the evolutionary paths just wouldnt go that way.

If you have any more queries or things you would like to discuss about AI modelling could you please post them in the AI forum.

how do you :breed" a model, and what dose it even mean?I assume its a type of soda-AI or evelution?

breeding is part of the "genetic" algorithm technique. The crossover bit. i wrote a lengthy explanation here.

Well, I'm still very proud of making that amoeba, and I'm glad I surpassed most of you guys' expectations. I'll tell you one thing, these AI models will definitely be a better challenge for me. I'm tired of most of the races here, most of them are too easy. Anyway, thanks for giving me that challenge :)

Can't wait to see the site.
