Changing the gravity and all that helps, but the main problem is your structure. First off, get rid of all the extra supports on the ouside rim, ie...

Now, dont turn on that gravity just yet, as it will completely trash that guy. Now you need to add a TON more sprongs on the inside. It might be easier to just destroy the whole thing. With enough springs, the amobea will be stronger and harder to crush. Here is one I built, and you can count the springs.

Turn the gravity on and it rolls pretty darn fast, because there is always a spring pushing against the ground. Here, I have the proper gravity setting right here, and you can see for yurself...

Now, look on the rim of the amobea, and yes, there ARE some supports. You want to have them going along the rim, but on yours you had them going in a square through the middle. This limits the movement of the amobea. The supports should be built in a certain pattern...
---------------- joint-----joint---joint----joint -------------------I______________I-------I--------- ---------------------------------------------I--------- ----------------------------I_____________I---------
So, you connect all the evens to evens, and all the odd joints to odd joints, and connect only those joints that are next to each other, ie. Even, odd, even on the outside rim. Don't cut through the amobea, and dont connect evens to odds. You can look at my model if this is utterly impossible to comprehend, as It is hard for me to write... =S
