Then, you attach one spring half the length of the long spring to one of the masses of the long spring. Then you attach a second spring to the first short spring and the other end of the long spring. Repeat this for how many phases you want the motor to have. Next comes the muscle placement. The muscles of a pair of springs needs to be out of phase in order to remain straight, so they have to be half the wave's length apart.
