Flarenya - I think your main problem now is just the settings. Your most recently posted model works fairly reliably with the right settings. It needs much less wave speed, a little less wave amplitude, and a little less gravity, basically.

When making a walker, I usually start with zero wave speed and zero amplitude, and slowly add them. The same thing with gravity. It's better to start with a very "neutral" environment, and then slowly add things, than it is to start with a "hostile" environment and try to tame it, if you catch my drift.

And of course, as warptera said, the model would benefit greatly from being constructed using guidelines, or at least very carefully "eyed" to have exact parts. If you want a simple walkthrough of how to make the daintywalker, I've written one up at my website (linked to at the left). Just go to "Tips" and then "Constructing." Good luck.

Thank you Lectavy (sorry if i spelled it wrong) I finally made a decent walker (I think). Here it is:

Check that out, booya.

P.S. sorry if i'm being annoying, i just get frustrated easily.

warptera, I have made that topic you proposed, just to see if any responds.
Thanks for the help with getting my sodaconstructing and school work fit together.

I have a problem!
I made this thing a day after I had got an idea, but it does not move. I have tried some times, but I cant see any way.
Please save my vision, or at least tell me it doesn't gonna work.
Here is the original, non-muscle version.

axilux,

I programed the 8 long springs that make up the 16 spines on you model. They go in order down the wave pallet:

http://sodaplay.com/constructor/player.htm?&getmodel=example+axilux1

It rolls fine but I doubt it could be programmed to walk very effectively. Is this what you had hoped for? It reminds me of a spikey sea urchin.

Thank you warp.
That was exactly what I had hoped for.
It rolls great. I tried to get the long springs in the spines to expand in a row at the wave pallet, but I probably did not tune it the right way.
Do you mind if I will send it to display@sodaplay.com, with your name in it?
My greatest thanks,
/axilux

I made that second set of 'guts' and the thing walks :) slowly :(

Anyways, here it is. Comments? Suggestions?

go ahead and submit it. It's a great design.

And don't worry about putting my name on it, I could have just told you how to program it. I just figured I'd show you instead as it's more effective. It's still 100% you're model.

Besides, I like the original name you picked for it.

ps-I don't want people to get to paranoid about models because of my anti-poaching statements.

If you look in my pub, you will see that I have only credited two constructors, Kevino and mono. This is because I deliberatly set out to study one of their models, and elaborate on their concept by making a model with the knowledge I gained from studying it.

I made squares and pentagons out of kevino's triangleQ, and a quadrihelix out of mono's trihelix. I also made Hyperion because of my work studying mono, but I didn't credit him in that model becuase it was a significant departure and a considerable effort on my part.

shared ideas and knowledge is part of the community. it shouldn't be discouraged at all, that's what wer're here for.

[also, "Cold_Fusion" was a veiled reference to CoalDiamond because he supplied me with the motor]

RR,

Did you happen to see Kevino's adaptation of your motor? He rebuilt it (because he didn't have your original specs) and made a cool walker out of it.

There are other possibilites of how to build legs for that, but study kev's work as the timing will likely be the same for any like frame.

Nice model Axilux(again, sorry if i spelled wrong)

Toodoo, i don't know what to do with this model, i want it to walk but i dont know where to put the wave things at...

flarenya--are you a girl (as the username suggests)? sorry if you aren't and that offends you...

to make a leg such as the ones you are using work, the muscle in the front and the muscle in the back should be 1/4 out of phase. this creates a circular motion which pushes the model along the ground, like so:

http://www.sodaplay.com/constructor/?getmodel=iamthehipo+legexample

the straight line represents the ground. see how the motion would make the model move?

to your model: this would probably work fine if you program the legs. but you might want to build a model where all the legs are the same size first--it would be easier to get the timing right.

Flarenya,

The process of placing icons on the wave pallet is called "programming".

in addition to what the hippo said about each leg being 1/4 out of phase, each leg should be 1/2 out of phase from the OTHER leg.

Also, make sure you use a guideline to make the legs. This will make a huge difference. It takes alittle patience but it's impossible to advance your skills without learning to measure.
