Hi axilux. Very cool walker. I think it works a lot better just with a little bit of tuning:

http://sodaplay.com/constructor/player.htm?&getmodel=LectvayExamples+5

Walkers will very rarely work well with as high of friction as your model had. For my taste, most walkers work best with as high K and low friction as it can handle, without getting shaky.

Tuned up it's a very good model, but if you wanted to make it even better I think it could be remade. Some of the lengths are a bit weird. The outer rim could be made tension srpings. Right now, it's made of triangles that are stretched in when the model is put together. If I were remaking this model, I would probably construct a "perfect" body with the motors first. After I have an exact three-triangle structure with the three rotating motors, then I would concentrate on making the legs.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

Thank you Lectvay, especially for the advice with tuning.
I will come up with a tuned model later.

This is a really pathetic problem. I am trying to make a turbine with a tension spring at the top and one at the bottom. Dont ask why. I tried, and failed, and decided to let the experts take care of it-http://sodaplay.com/constructor/player.htm?&getmodel=Spideylegs+Help

spidey,

the first problem is that those cirles are mishapen. maybe you could first scavenge two even circles from my pub. there are four matched circles in my turbine model "twist".

Waterpa (or anyone else with similar knowledge/experience):

Do you know of an online resource that explains exactly how the counter-rotors work? I realize that I could simply look at previous models, but they are often too complex or too simple (it's hard to explain) to sufficiently demonstrate the actual principles behind them...

What I am really asking, I think, is this: What is/are the general rule(s) for making an n-point counter-rotor?

This is how I construct counter rotors:

http://sodaplay.com/constructor/player.htm?&getmodel=example+4pt_Counter_Rotor
all the lines are the same length. start at the upper left mass. see how the muscles eminating from it are placed going down the wave pallet from top to bottom.

then notice how the point below has muscles eminating from it that start 1/4 phase down from the first mass. and so on down the left column of masses.

all muscles must be at max amplitude and the master wave amplitude must also be max.

when you start the counter rotor it may tangle. just slow it down and untangle it.

that was hurried, was it clear?

What about 6/8/16/32 point counter-rotors? Is it the same principle only the phase is divided by 3/4/8/16 respectively?

I need some help with this model.

It doesn't move very fast and it is kind of jerky.

Thanks,
Jaj

yes, that's exactly right.

except, I have never made more than a 8pt counter rotor. in a 8 plus each pt is connected to too many other masses. it would vibrate excessively.

3, 4, 5, 6, 8 work fine though.

jaj,

those wheels are badly mishapen. perhaps there are some matched circles in my pub that you could scavenge.

OK, I got the things, stuck em together, and the s dont go at the same time! I don't get it.leghttp://sodaplay.com/constructor/player.htm?&getmodel=Spideylegs+StillWrong

spidey,

here is an example:

one turbine has the tension springs inplace of the muscles, and the other (bottom) has the turbine already configured with the tension springs added after:

http://sodaplay.com/constructor/player.htm?&getmodel=example+Spideylegs3

i'm guessing you were aiming for the bottom one right?

Yes warptera, that was my original idea, but then when the turbines twisted i thought that two going like that would make a four legged walker, with two legs on each turbine. You get it?

this may take the fun out of it, but...

http://sodaplay.com/constructor/player.htm?&getmodel=example+Spideylegs5

I anticipated your idea. if you examine this model however, and notice how it is constructed, then you may be able to refine the idea and discover even better configurations.
