I know how jets work. There is always some friction, even when the 'F bar' is down to zero. The muscles then expand causing more masses to move down. As this occurs the friction tries to keep the masses staying still. Since there are more masses going down the masses travelling down give the masses at the top a 'leg up'. thus causing the whole jet to move up. When the muscles contract again the negative thing will happen ,however, this will only cancel out the speed the flyer already has. there was time between the masses expanding and contracting so the jet has moved up. As this repeats the jet moves up quite steadily.
