Wait! You must've created it normally in SodaBetaII (Local) and altered the XML file manually! Am I right?

Darn double posts! I really need to get out of this habit...if only there was an "Edit Post" button so I could just edit the previous post...

recently when trying to make a 24 point ameoba, for some reason when i started a simulation the thing started spining and jittering. it doesnt seem to stop. i think i some how created a perpetual motion machine, the only way to stop its movement it turn friction all the way on or gravity all the way up.

No muscles...
Did you use zipsprings? Zipsprings in a Type 3 Amoeba (type 3 as in "the type 3 one described in sodaplaycentral's tutorial") will mess it up, at least in my experience.

I really hate to break it to you but all that you did was take a bunch or points turn f down and spin them around. without friction anything will jiggle forever. if you turn k down a tiny bit and f up a tiny bit it really just stops. so sorry to burst your bubble but it isnt anything even remotely special.

I tried making yours (no offense meant) after seeing how it was built
it didn't look anything like it
I suppose i just don't have the magic touch

Anyways, i just don't really get the idea of the zero or "zip" springs

Ask in the dedicated help thread. This thread was over 2 months old, so you should not have posted in it. Please read the forum guidelines, found at http://sodarace.net/forum/guidelines/index.htm

Oh yes, and welcome to the boards!

Just a thought....
Because the sides are zip springs, all the sides have equal pull to keep their original form, regardless of how far they are stretched. If they all exert the same forces, then they should cancel each other out, making the force 0. Now that there is no force being exerted by the sides, the only things that dictate shape are the diagonals which, because they are equal, force the polygon to keep perpendicular sides.

for anyone who wants to know how to make a "zip-spring" (aka 0 length spring) or a tension spring look at this model

Mray:
Your idea is plausible, but you should have posted this in a new thread, instead of reviving this one. It had been inactive for over a year!

lorcon:
Post it in the help thread. That isn't particularly relevant to this topic.

sorry, its hust a lot of people where trying to figure out how to make them and stuff so i decided i try it...
i also figured out that if you play around with it for a bit you can turn a tension spring into a suspended (even with half gravity) windmill blade type thing. i am sorry i dont have the link but since i did not think it usefull i deleted it >.<

iv mae a bunch of those before. i just didnt think it was special. you can make them with the fllg. just put 4 masses for the flex loop. its pretty imple.
