What's in it for the AI?   posted: 23-Sep-02 17:12   »»
Dear all,

Just dropped by the site after a protracted absence and am really excited by the prospect of the Sodarace.

However, I did want to pose one question - how do you define the 'goal' to an Artificial Intelligence? In other words, do you give it a sense of 'start' and 'finish' and then define a parameter for success that involves getting from one to the other in the shortest possible time/via the most efficient route? If so, is anyone working on an AI that is driven by artificial equivalents of 'satisfaction' or 'winning'?

Al the best!

Nickp

Hi,

I am just a constructor, but I have been following all the pertenant conversations so perhaps I can fill you in.

The "fitness" of each generated model will be evalutated by letting it race over a course. As you can imagine, a Genetic Algorithm can be very processor intensive as the fitness of thousands of models will need to be evaluated. As such it would be impratical for a Human to sit and decide which models get to "live" and which "die". So I assume the stopwatch will be the only determining factor.

Can you imagine, hoards of AI generated models bowing before a representation of their God, the almighty Stopwatch Diety, making sacrifices and praying they don't end up in the Algorithm's graveyard?

haha, sorry. this is just what I have gleened so far.
If I'm wrong, ed or someone else will fill you in.

Please do NOT POST JUNK like this in the wrong threads (topics)...
If you want help making a model, read in the model maker forum, ok?
"Help i dont know how to make a model, give me tips" is not the right thing to post in a thread concerning "What's in it for the AI?"....
GET IT!?

look at the date...

you DO NOT reply to topics that are almost 4 years old unless you have some REALLY important to add.
complaining about 4 year old spam in not at all appropriate.

Let's see...
The 4 year old post wasn't really spam. I'm guessing that maliandrija was complaining about someone else's spam, which was then deleted, and made it look like maliandrija's post was bumping the topic.

I may be wrong, but I've seen this happen before.

Racing AI (Such as sodarace) is the prime factor of this website (if you already know). But AI is one of the many things in this world that can survive, only depending on the power that lets it live (If it were able to want something).
