Ive got a present for all you people out there who cant program but want to optimise ur models without having to sit there for hours tweaking minor settings. Its a little program that you run along side the race application. Its quite simple. Just load in ur existing model. select the variables u want to optimise, start and let run for a few hours. ive hardly tested it but it should work ok. you could report any problems here. just be sure to start a new instance of the race app every time u want to start again. unzip and run "run.bat" to begin Download from here: http://www.dcs.qmul.ac.uk/sodarace/downloads.html its the last link

I click on the batch file and the window comes up where you have to choose all your settings, BUT NOTHING IS WORKING! Everything is gray and unclickable. Even the filename box! I am running Windows XP, do you think that has anything to do with it?

But, I'm still having trouble getting this to work. I choose "browse," select an XML model, and then click "Start GA." Then, the application just closes. What am I doing wrong? Sounds like a very cool program, Chirag. I hope I can get it working and try it out soon.

Also a tip the only thing I turn off for a ameoba was the resting lengths of springs and muscle... When teh model became faster I restarted the program and turn down the mutation and rate (remember to keep them equivalent)

Once you start the race app the buttons should become enabled. Or just start the race app before you run the program. If the program has trouble reading an XML file it will just close. Might be sumthin wrong with ur xml file. test it on sumthin like dainty walker.

Unfortunately, the race app only works if you start it online. I have it working now. And Lectvay, do you have "accept all" selected in the race app when you click "Start GA?" Because if you don't, it doesn't do anything. If you do, the application will still close but the race app will be doing all the work and automatically saving the fastest model under "fastest" in the folder where you put the program. Am I right Chirag?

Is it possible there is some small bug in the program? I am sure that I am using the same model file as before. To be specific, I unchecked the options for changing the spring and muscle lengths. I'm enjoying using your program. Thank you!

Once you start the GA it will dissappear but the program is still running as you can tell it should still be generating models. The program will close when you close the race app. I'll look into that bug Lectvay. Could you post the XML file you were using?

I think the problem might have been that I had sodaconstructor local open at the same time, to make a terrain. Anyway, I'm just glad it's working now. Thanks again.
