I'm skeptical that there could be terrains that prevent a jittery model from performing well. It is true that when only one terrain is used, the GA can make a jittery model specifically tailored to that terrain. But I predict that even with various terrains being used at once the solution would be jitteriness. I could be wrong though.

Your idea for the three terrains to use is a good one, I think.

Well, I know this is kind of not evolving a creature from scratch, but if you look at my work in cells in my pub you'll see that an AI could piece those together to make a model. Just tell it to make a flex loop with six zips and a cross beam of 75. The membrane also has a length of 75. The cross beams could then be premade with muscles or have the AI try out some combinations. Then, merge them together to create a shape. Even make an AI that makes a symmetrical model and times things accordingly.

I'm interested in knowing what people have made for their crossover algorithms. The one I implemented was a rather simple morphing algorithm.

Here's a couple racers that evolved from my program:

jwheatley,

Those are really cool. Those creatures have a stabilizing flipper on the front, and then a pushing mechanism in the rear. It is so interesting to see what different people's AIs are coming up with. Please, programmers, keep posting things like this! I promise you that us non-programmers find it fascinating.

That is what I am also interested in. Could you please explain morphing in more details.
