hi

just to understand the current status - at the moment you are just presenting your idea/vision - and the API isn't available yet?

So we are still free to propose some ideas and ask some questions?

Will you offer a downloadable simulation-application to calculate the models fitness locally - if yes, please make sure that there's also command-line version to allow batch processing - or even better a version which offers communication via xml-rpc or something similar (and please offer it for as many operating systems as possible - linux, mac os x, win, ...)

Using xml to encode the models morphology is definetely a good idea.

What will the challenges be like? things like moving fast from A to B? It would be nice to be able to use custom fitness-functions for the simulations to control evolution more precisely.

exactly right. we've not started building it yet presicely because we're interested in getting input from model makers and researchers before we design it. Sodarace isn't due to launch until later this year and we're very open to ideas and real involvement in the development process.

Using XML to enable diverse cross platform entrants is very much what we have in mind. A downloadable java application may well be part of that solution. In order to get deeper into this subject in the forum we plan to present a proposed structure at http://sodarace.net/how/index.jsp in the next week or two, all ideas and comments are welcome!

BTW, your homepage is very interesting indeed, !scribble [ http://www.rinner.st/cgi-bin/diplomaspace?selector=display&snip=%21scribble ] is very impressive and a great example of an accessible xml driven interface.
